The World on a Plate brings global flavors to One Ayala

For nearly a month, One Ayala gave diners a passport-free food adventure with The World on a Plate, a pop-up dining experience that ran from August 9 to September 4 at the mall’s Level 2 Concourse.

Now on its second year, the concept brought together 28 restaurants under one roof, offering everything from Spanish tapas and Portuguese stews to Thai fried chicken and Japanese sushi. More than just a cluster of food stalls, it worked like a shared dining hall where friends and families with different cravings could order from multiple restaurants at once—without leaving their seats. Prices stayed the same as at the restaurants themselves, making it easy for guests to explore something new.

The setup also served as an extended dining space for mall merchants, especially those tucked away at lower levels with limited seating. Many diners discovered places they didn’t even realize were in the mall, organizers said.

The dining experience also came with a 15-minute ASMR-inspired video before meals, designed to set the mood and make each order feel like a trip across borders. It added to the Instagrammable, upscale vibe that made the pop-up a draw for office workers, commuters, weekend groups, and even casual shoppers who stumbled upon it.

When we dropped by on the last day, we managed to sample quite a spread—pasta from Tiger Sugar, coffee from Cinnabon, dim sum selections from Delizious Zhubaobao, chicken from Tiong Bahru, desserts from Conti’s, and a few other dishes from different restaurants. It was the kind of mix-and-match meal you’d never normally put together, but that’s what made The World on a Plate fun.

Though it has wrapped up for the year, the event proved successful in driving both diner traffic and merchant visibility. Organizers hinted at an even bigger edition next year, with more participating restaurants and possibly new twists to keep the experience fresh.

For One Ayala, The World on a Plate is just one of many efforts to make the mall more than just a transit hub. With activities like these, it’s shaping itself into a destination where shopping, dining, and leisure go hand in hand.
