Mariah Carey is back, dahhlings—and she didn’t just tiptoe in. She came swinging with “Here For It All,” her highly anticipated 16th studio album, officially out today in a global release. As the best-selling female artist of all time, Carey adds another milestone to her legendary discography.
It’s her first studio album in seven years, since 2018’s critically acclaimed “Caution.” And if you’ve been starving for fresh Mariah, this buffet is worth the wait.
From the opening track “Mi,” where she cheekily declares “you couldn’t walk a mile in my shoes” over a taut hip-hop beat, to the goosebump-inducing gospel flair of “Jesus I Do” with The Clark Sisters, Here For It All is unmistakably Mariah—but with a twist. Or as she told CBS recently: “I would say it’s new Mariah, but still sounds like Mariah, but there’s a little twist to it that makes it a little bit different.”
Carey has never been one to casually name an album. This time, the diva made sure her favorite track got the marquee.
“I titled it ‘Here For It All’ because it’s my favorite song on the album—and I didn’t want it to get lost,” she told GQ Magazine. “I wanted to make sure people listened all the way through the album to that song, specifically because it goes all the way out with that outro… It’s a moment when it gets to ‘Here For It All.’”
It’s the kind of song that reminds you why Mariah is one of the finest songwriters of all time. Lyrically, the album swings from playful bravado to heart-on-sleeve confessionals. On “Nothing Is Impossible,” she sings with gut-punching vulnerability about “long harrowing nights” and the fear of never rising again.
The new album is headlined by its lead single “Type Dangerous,” which recently won Best R&B at the Video Music Awards, and the pre-release song “Sugar Sweet,” a breezy and super catchy number.
Collaborations and callbacks
The album also shows off Carey’s curatorial instincts. Teaming up with Anderson .Paak of Silk Sonic, she delivers the soulful duet “Play This Song.” It’s the official next single, released alongside the album today.
Carey also dips into the archives of her childhood with a cover of Wings’ “My Love.” She recalls hearing it as a kid on the back of a motorcycle, a memory that never left her. These touches of soul, soft rock, and gospel sit comfortably next to the sleek R&B production that recalls Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, while the vocal layering and melisma bring us right back to her Charmbracelet days.
And because the Filipino Lambily deserves to celebrate properly, Manila gets its own moment. Carey returns to the SM Mall of Asia Arena on October 14 via Wilbros Live, her fourth concert in the city. Expect the night to be a mix of her timeless hits, fresh cuts from Here For It All, and, knowing Mimi, maybe even a Christmas song. After all, she’s well aware that the Philippines starts caroling as soon as the “-ber” months roll in.
So yes, she’s here for it all—the heartbreak, the healing, the high notes, the holiday cheer. And so are we.
